Household remedy against swallowing problems in small children
In most cases, inflammatory changes in the mouth and throat are the cause of swallowing problems in small children. Often the complaints are caused by an inflammation of the tonsils or even the epiglottis. In a typical tonsillitis, the difficulty in swallowing is accompanied by severe sore throat, fever, reddened, swollen and sometimes purulent tonsils and a general feeling of illness.
Swallowing difficulties can also occur in the context of known childhood diseases such as scarlet fever or mumps. In order to alleviate the symptoms, care should be taken to ensure that children drink enough fluids. Drinking chamomile or sage tea is also recommended, as these have a calming effect on the mucous membranes and reduce the inflammation. Cold compresses around the neck also provide significant relief, as they also have a very pleasant and calming effect due to their cooling component.
Household remedy against swallowing problems during the nursing period
If one suffers from swallowing difficulties in combination with severe sore throat while breastfeeding, one should pay attention to the medication one is taking, as some substances can also be transferred to the child via breast milk. In such situations it is helpful to use household remedies that are well known to the child. Cooling neck compresses and a sufficient fluid intake in the form of camomile tea are recommended, as this calms the inflamed mucous membrane. Sage tea can be used for gargling, which has a calming effect and moistens the mouth and throat area, as well as having a disinfecting effect.
