Mental/emotional causes | Causes of a lipoma

Mental/emotional causes

As with most tumors, the development of a lipoma is based on a multifactorial cause. The degeneration of the fat cells (adipocytes) is on the one hand apparently genetically determined, on the other hand metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus or fat metabolism disorders (e.g. hyperlipidemia), but also severe bruising or bumps play a role in the development of a lipoma. In recent years, the research of psychological and mental influences on the development of benign tumors such as lipoma but also malignant tumors (cancer) has come to the fore.

Mental influences are used to try to explain why, of all people who belong to a certain risk group for a certain type of tumor, only a few fall ill with cancer and most stay healthy. So far, a significant connection between psychological characteristics or stress and the occurrence of certain tumors such as lipoma has not been proven. In any case, psychological causes alone are not sufficient for tumor development, but, if they play a role, they are jointly responsible as causes in the context of multifactorial tumor development.
