Metformin and alcohol
If you are taking metformin, the excessive consumption of alcohol carries a number of dangers that should be taken seriously. One particularly important point is that you will be alcoholized much faster than without taking the drug. It is very easy to overlook the point when it is enough with the alcohol intake.
The drug does not lose its effect, but it drastically increases that of alcohol. It is not uncommon for alcohol poisoning to occur when metformin users do not have alcohol consumption under control. However, it is usually no problem to drink a small amount of alcohol.
It should be noted that men can drink almost twice as much as women. Not only is the effect of the alcohol intensified, it can also lead to further complications. There is in fact the danger of lactate acidosis, which is described above, and the danger of hypoglycaemia, which can be seriously dangerous if not treated immediately.
