Therapy

In the case of vomiting, a lot of rest and drinking is usually the best remedy. It is extremely important to drink enough fluids, as a lot of fluid as well as electrolytes and minerals are quickly lost during vomiting. Lukewarm herbal teas are well tolerated.

Salt and glucose can also be added. There are also ready-to-use electrolyte solutions available in pharmacies. Children often do not want to drink under any circumstances if they suffer from vomiting and diarrhoea.

That is why you can also reach for the child’s favourite drinks, but not for Cola, Fanta, Sprite and other soft drinks, as they draw additional water from the body due to their extremely high sugar content. If the child does not manage to drink enough for days, a hospital stay may be necessary where infusions are administered. In addition to liquid, these contain vital electrolytes and minerals that are lost during vomiting.

Dehydration is a very dangerous side effect of vomiting and diarrhoea. In contrast to this, you can wait calmly with your food intake. Especially with children, one must be careful not to start too early with foods that are difficult to digest.

Therefore, you should first make sure that you drink enough liquid. A person can get along very well for a few days without food. Otherwise the vomiting usually subsides on its own within a few days.

There are special suppositories that help against vomiting. Nausea and vomiting are usually only symptoms of another underlying disease. The most common cause – gastrointestinal infections – are fought by the patient’s own immune system and normally do not require any additional medication.

It is important to consult your pediatrician if you are dealing with babies and toddlers or with long-lasting diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. Vomiting in children is a symptom for which home remedies may also be used. It is important to remember that household remedies are useful for mild vomiting in children.

A doctor should be consulted for more severe symptoms. First of all, the child must be given plenty of fluids, which it loses through vomiting. Numerous but small amounts should be drunk.

Camomile, lemon balm and peppermint, which can be administered as tea, have proven to be household remedies that have a calming effect on the stomach when children vomit.Food should be avoided at first. After a few hours, the loss of salts and electrolytes can be compensated with some salt sticks or salty broth. Heat has proven to be another household remedy for nausea and vomiting in children.

A hot-water bottle can be placed on the stomach or a cherry stone pillow can be used. Warmth helps to relax the stomach. Especially for smaller children, a light abdominal massage can also help to ease cramps in the gastrointestinal tract.

In addition, bed rest should of course be observed. If the symptoms do not improve or increase after a short time, the doctor should be consulted if children vomit. There are some homeopathic remedies that can be used to help against vomiting and nausea in small children.

However, one should always ensure that sufficient fluid intake is provided at the same time and the cause of the vomiting should always be diagnosed by a doctor. In children, the remedies are best administered in globule form. These should be dissolved in the mouth so that the active ingredients can be absorbed through the oral mucosa.

In babies and small children, the globules can be dissolved in water. There are different recommendations for the dosage. Doses up to D12 can be used, but only small doses should be used without consulting a doctor (D1 to D6).

The following drugs can be administered for vomiting and diarrhoea:

  • Arsenicum album is also used against vomiting and diarrhea and has an additional calming effect when children suffer from additional anxiety. It is also used to treat the side effects of nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, namely fever, fatigue and dizziness. Heat improves the symptoms and cold makes them worse.
  • Chamomilla helps against stomach cramps, insomnia and flatulence.

The most important application, however, is diarrhea.

  • Ferrum phosphoricum is also effective against fever and against diarrhea, diarrhea, vomiting, gastritis, gastroenteritis, headache and joint pain. Deterioration is obtained by rest and improvement is obtained by exercise.
  • Hepar sulfuris calcareum can also be used in children’s homeopathy if the child suffers from diarrhea and vomiting.
  • Nux vomica is a drug that is given to children when they cannot vomit. It is also used to treat travel sickness and normal nausea, fever and diarrhea.

Deterioration is achieved by cold and improvement is achieved by warmth.

  • Veratrum album is given for diarrhea, exhaustion and poor circulation.

If household remedies and other supporting measures are not sufficient, medication can be useful. Normally vomiting is intended to remove a toxic substance from the body. But especially if the vomiting cannot be stopped and therefore dangerous fluid or electrolyte loss is imminent, the vomiting must be stopped.

The use of drugs also makes sense in cases of travel sickness or seasickness. One of the drugs used to treat vomiting in children is Vomex. Vomex effectively inhibits vomiting in children.

A syrup that is easier for children to take is a suitable dosage form. If vomiting occurs again immediately after taking the medication, the administration of a suppository is recommended. Vomex can be given to children who are at least 6 kg in weight and are already a baby.

However, always pay attention to the correct dosage, which depends on weight and height. A pediatrician or pharmacist should be consulted. Medication can be used effectively against vomiting in children.
