Nimodipine is commercially available as an infusion solution and tablets (Nimotop). It has been approved in many countries since 1987.
Structure and properties
Nimodipine (C21H26N2O7, Mr = 418.4 g/mol) is a racemate. It exists as a pale yellow to yellow crystalline powder that is practically insoluble in water.
Effects
Nimodipine (ATC C08CA06) has cerebral antivasoconstrictor and antiischemic properties.
Indications
For prevention and treatment of ischemic neurologic deficits due to cerebral vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage from aneurysms.
