Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of epistaxis (nosebleeds).
Family history
- What is the general health of your family members?
- Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
- Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?
Social history
- What is your profession?
Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).
- How long have you had current nosebleeds now?
- What other symptoms have you noticed?
- Do you have a headache?
- Have you noticed a triggering moment? Injury, etc.
- Do you have frequent nosebleeds?
Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis
Self anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis
- Pre-existing conditions (cardiovascular disease, nasal disease).
- Environmental history – climatic influences such as dry indoor air (low humidity) due tooverheated rooms, floor heating, air conditioning.
- Operations (nose operations)
- Radiotherapy
- Allergies
- Pregnancies
Medication history
- Anticoagulants (anticoagulant medications) such as phenprocoumon and/or antiplatelet medications such as acetylsalicylic acid, clopidrogel (ASA).
- Nasal drops or sprays (including glucocorticoid nasal sprays).
- Medications that irritate the mucous membranes.
- Phospodiesterase-5 inhibitors
