Other side effects

Rarely does taking Voltaren® cause more serious gastrointestinal discomfort. These include inflammation of the stomach lining, bleeding (including bloody diarrhea or vomiting of blood) or gastrointestinal ulcers. Hypersensitivity reactions or allergic reactions are also rare, which in the worst case can even lead to a drop in blood pressure with a state of shock.

Inflammation of the liver is also rare, possibly including jaundice, sometimes with functional disorders. This is because Voltaren® is metabolized in the liver. The risk of these side effects increases if other drugs are taken that could potentially damage the liver, or if unhealthy alcohol consumption is involved. In addition, urticaria (an inflammation of the skin with wheals), hair loss or water retention in the tissue (edema) can also occur.

Rare side effects

Very rarely, a large number of side effects can occur, although some of them are really only isolated cases. These include diseases such as: To see a complete list, you should always take a look at the package insert of the medication used. Systemic side effects can also occur occasionally when Voltaren® is used locally.

This happens especially when the drug is used over a long period of time and/or over a very large area. The possible side effects give rise to some rules of conduct that should be observed when using Voltaren®.For example, due to the frequent occurrence of tiredness and dizziness after ingestion, one should not drive a motor vehicle or operate heavy machinery if possible. In addition, people who are prone to allergic reactions anyway (e.g. people with hay fever, hives, asthma or neurodermatitis) should be extremely careful, especially when using Voltaren® locally, and even avoid them if possible. If a patient notices side effects while taking or applying Voltaren®, he or she should immediately consult a doctor or pharmacist, have them examined and be advised whether the application should continue or whether it is possible to switch to another preparation or to stop taking the drug altogether.
