Partial Reps

Synonyms in the broadest sense

Burns, partial repetitions

Definition

The partial reps method involves a shortened execution of movement due to the resulting fatigue of the muscles.

Description

If no repetition in the entire movement amplitude is possible for a block, the further repetitions are executed with a shortened working angle. Many bodybuilders speak of a burning or pain in the muscles. The intensity of this method is comparable to heavy duty training.

Implementation

Per unit/exercise between 5-6 repetitions in the normal range of motion until complete exhaustion. This is followed by 2-4 repetitions where the weight is not returned to the starting position. This allows further repetitions despite complete exhaustion. Per exercise, between 4 and 8 sets should be performed, depending on the performance level.

Modifications

Depending on the muscular load, a static phase can be added to the following partial repetitions to increase the training stimulus.

Goal

The aim of the Burns is to put additional strain on the muscles and thereby increase muscle growth. However, due to the altered leverage of the muscles, the effect of the additional repetitions is controversial. When bench pressing, it is known that the chest muscles are exposed to the highest training stimulus when the bar is at chest level. However, training with burns excludes this phase of repetition.

Risks

If the partial reps are used correctly, injury to the muscles is impossible. To prevent the risk of overloading, it is important to pay attention to the signals of the muscles.
