Parathyroid Hyperfunction (Hyperparathyroidism): Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; further:
    • Inspection (viewing) of skin, mucous membranes.
      • Acroosteolysis (“bone loss”) of hands and feet?
    • Auscultation (listening) of the heart.
    • Palpation (palpation) of the kidney bearing
    • Palpation of the abdomen (abdomen), etc. [due togastrointestinal complaints]
  • Neurological examination, if applicable – check for reflexes, motor and/or sensory deficits/muscle weakness or paresis (paralysis) of certain muscles.
  • Urological examination [due tosymptom or sequelae/complications: Urolithiasis/nephrolithiasis (urinary stone formation)]
  • Health check
