Prophylaxis | Torn ligament of the thumb

Prophylaxis

A torn ligament in the thumb is usually difficult to prevent, as the injury usually happens during sports. It may be advisable not to use ski poles when skiing or, in the case of ball sports that involve a higher risk of finger injuries, to apply a tape bandage around the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb as a preventive measure. This can possibly reduce overstretching of the inner collateral ligament.
