Rabies: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of rabies.

Family history

Social history

  • What is your occupation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed? General symptoms of illness such as headache, muscle pain, fever, etc.?
  • How long have these symptoms been present?
  • What other complaints do you have?
    • Fear of water
    • Shy of light
  • Can you recall a bite or other mucous membrane contact with saliva from animals?
  • Have you been vaccinated against rabies in the recent past?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

Self anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis

  • Pre-existing conditions (infections, injuries)
  • Operations
  • Allergies
  • Medication history

Any suspicion of rabies requires immediate hospitalization!
