Remove spider veins

Spider veins are to be seen as a kind of mini spasm veins and do not need treatment per se, as they are usually only a cosmetic problem. Before they are treated, however, they always clarify the cause of their spider veins, because there can be various venous disorders behind them. There are two main therapeutic options to remove spider veins.

Firstly, the patient has the option of laser therapy or sclerotherapy of the dilated veins. Both options have advantages and disadvantages, and neither of them offers a 100% guarantee for the disappearance of spider veins. Nor do they prevent the reappearance of spider veins.

Desertification

Also called sclerotherapy. Here, the fine veins are treated with various drugs (polidocanol/macrogollaurylether). They are injected either as liquid or foam into the spider veins.

The medication causes a local inflammation in the vessels, which then stick together and are broken down by the body’s own immune system. The inflammation is usually not painful. The liquid/foam is broken down and excreted by the body after about 2-3 days. After the treatment a compression of the leg with stockings or wraps is advisable. After about 2-3 months, after successful treatment, the spider veins should no longer be visible.

Laser therapy

The other method to remove spider veins is laser therapy. With this method even the finest veins can be treated (up to a diameter of approx. 0.1 mm).

The laser ensures that the blood in the spider veins coagulates and thus clumps together. The body’s own defence system breaks down the clumped parts. Afterwards, the vein walls break down and are also broken down.

The spider veins should no longer be visible afterwards. But this requires several sessions. After about one month, a result should be visible.

Costs for the removal of spider veins

On the one hand, there is the possibility to have spider veins (varices) obliterated and on the other hand, there is the possibility of laser treatment. With sclerotherapy, aethoxysclerol is injected directly into the small blood vessels. The vessels stick together and are then broken down by the body.

This method is mainly used for larger spider veins. During laser treatment, which can also be used for smaller and especially superficial spider veins, the skin is irradiated with very long-wave light. This light passes through the skin and is absorbed by the red blood pigment haemoglobin, causing the vessels to stick together.

With both treatment methods it always depends on how large the area to be treated is and how often a session is necessary. However, most spider veins disappear after about 4-6 weeks. For 100cm2 we charge about 150€ to 200€, the sclerotherapy can also be a little cheaper.

Often you will get the following treatments a little cheaper. Mostly you have to add the costs for the first consultation, which often costs about 50€ more. Occasionally, however, you can also find much cheaper offers for sclerotherapy and laser treatment. The former partly under 65€ and the latter from 80€. It is always important not to ignore the quality of the treatment when calculating the price.
