Shammah is mainly distributed in North Africa, for example in Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Yemen. It has also reached Europe and Switzerland with migration (e.g. Makla Ifrikia).
Ingredients
Shammah consists of grated tobacco, salts (calcium carbonate, sodium carbonate), ash, oils, and flavorings or spices such as black pepper and peppermint. It is greenish-yellow or brown-black in color and has a pungent odor.
Effects
The effects are due to the nicotine contained in tobacco, which has psychotropic, relaxing and stimulating properties. It enters the bloodstream through the oral mucosa and thus the central nervous system.
Indications for use
Shammah is consumed as a stimulant.
Dosage
The product is placed behind the lower lip or in the crease of the cheek and can be left there for several hours.
Adverse effects
Shammah is addictive and causes lesions of the oral mucosa. It appears to be carcinogenic and may cause cancer of the oral cavity with regular use.
