Sports for sore throat
Sport should not be done if you have a sore throat, as this can be a symptom of flu, a cold or a chill. In order not to burden the body unnecessarily, sport should be avoided until the sore throat is healed. Smaller walks in the fresh air are okay to stimulate the circulation a bit.
A sore throat is one of the most common complaints in humans. Children up to the age of 15 years are much more often affected by neck pain than adults.Sore throat is a symptom and not a disease, i.e. many different diseases can cause sore throat. The complaints initially manifest themselves in a rough and scratchy throat.
Within a few hours, it can lead to sometimes severe pain with difficulty swallowing. Fever and weakness accompany the sore throat at times. Sore throats usually last between 3-5 days.
The cause can be inflammation of the throat and tonsils (see: tonsillitis), which is caused by viruses or bacteria. Infection by beta-hemolytic streptococci is of particular importance. A subgroup called streptococci pyogenes or GAS can cause a dangerous peritonsillar abscess.
Furthermore, if not treated, these can also migrate into the heart muscle and cause a dangerous heart muscle inflammation. In addition to inspecting the neck with a flashlight and a spatula, the doctor will also palpate the lymph nodes and interview the patient. If the patient reports fever, absence of cough, evidence of tonsils and swollen lymph nodes, a streptococcal infection is likely in 50-60% of cases.
To confirm this, a blood test and a smear, if necessary with a rapid streptococcal test, can be performed. If the suspected diagnosis turns out to be correct, antibiotic therapy should be started. Removal of the tonsils should only be considered in cases of recurrent inflammation of the pharyngeal tonsils.
This type of treatment has thus become much more restrained than a few decades ago. In most cases, treatment of the sore throat is only necessary symptomatically. Patients should take it easy, drink a lot, humidify the outside air, put on neck compresses, gargle with salt water and drink sage or chamomile tea.
To treat inflammatory factors, paracetamol or ibuprofen can be taken 2-3 times a day for a period of 3 days. In the vast majority of cases, sore throats subside after 2-3 days without complications. In a few cases there are complicated courses with peritonsillar abscesses or pathogen carry-over with heart muscle inflammation. More about sore throat with our partner
