Suicidal Tendencies (Suicidality): Therapy

After a suicide attempt or in the case of active suicide planning, admission to a psychiatric ward of a hospital takes place.

Somatic treatment, psychosocial and psychiatric diagnosis, and always crisis intervention begin. The aim is to clarify the causes of the suicidal crisis as far as possible. In the process, the patient should achieve his or her first steps toward overcoming the crisis.

If there is a risk of suicide: Emergency call 112

Drug therapy in this case is a tertiary prevention in the sense of individual prevention, i.e. prevention of relapses and further unfavorable long-term consequences for the individual. The following psychotropic drugs are used: antidepressants (AD), phase prophylactics (lithium and mood stabilizers), antipsychotics (neuroleptics: Atypicals (clozapine and olanzapine)), tranquilizers, and ketamine.
