Symptoms accompanying diarrhoea caused by vitamin D
Taking vitamin D can be associated with various adverse effects, just like taking other medications. The possible side effects of taking colecalciferol include diarrhea: the side effects mentioned above, however, occur mainly in the context of an overdose and rather rarely as a permanent side effect if the dosage is adequate.
- Blockages
- Flatulence
- Nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Itching
- Skin rash
Abdominal pain is also a symptom that can occur when taking vitamin D. Usually, however, the undesirable effects of taking vitamin D occur mainly when there is an overdose.
Abdominal pain can also occur at the beginning of the therapy without an overdose. Therefore, we do not recommend that you stop taking vitamin D directly, but rather that you use home remedies to alleviate the abdominal pain. You can find out how to do this under Home remedies for abdominal pain – Which are the best?
Duration and prognosis of diarrhea caused by vitamin D
As already mentioned, diarrhea as a side effect of medication often occurs only during the first few days of taking the medication and disappears of its own accord after the body has become accustomed to the intake. Diarrhea, which occurs as a short-term side effect of Vitamin D intake, is not dangerous. In older people and children, however, care should be taken to ensure an adequate fluid intake, since in very young or very old people a loss of fluid, as can occur with diarrhoea, cannot be compensated for as well as in healthy adults.
