Symptoms of a stinky nose

One of the main symptoms of the stinky nose is, as the name suggests, the foul-smelling, putrid to sweetish smell, which is caused by the settlement of various germs inside the nose, which multiply there and decompose the nasal mucous membrane. This typical smell of a stinky nose, however, is usually not perceived by the affected person himself, since in addition to a degeneration of the nasal mucous membrane, there is also an atrophy of nerve endings inside the nose, which is why the ability to smell is usually limited or even completely lost (anosmia) in a stinky nose.

Other symptoms

On the other hand, fellow human beings naturally notice the smell as one of the most important smelly nose symptoms very clearly, which can often cause considerable difficulties for patients with a smelly nose in social areas such as at work or in their circle of friends or family. Often patients with a stinky nose are shunned or excluded from society and often do not know why at all at the beginning. This symptom of a stinky nose causes serious suffering, which, if the condition persists for a long time, can even lead to massive psychological complaints such as depressive episodes or manifest depression.

Another symptom that can accompany a stinky nose is the complete loss of the ability to smell. Although this prevents the patient from smelling his or her own nose, he or she is no longer able to perceive smells, which can also affect the sense of taste. In addition, the mucous membrane dries out in a stinky nose, as the mucous glands are also affected by the destruction and can no longer produce enough fluid to keep the inside of the nose moist.

The nasal secretion of a stinky nose therefore becomes very viscous and takes on a yellow-green, sometimes almost black color. The secretion can also become really solid, which can lead to a complication of the stinky nose: encrustations that can either come off and fall out of the nose or become stuck, making breathing difficult. Since the nose is blocked for a long time, one of the most important stinky nose symptoms can also be a nasal and/or headache. Some patients also experience nosebleeds or suppurations.
