Umckaloabo: How it loosens mucus

This active ingredient is in Umckaloabo

The Umckaloabo effect is based on the extract of the Cape geranium root. This acts against viruses and bacteria and helps with mucus in the airways. The medicine stimulates cilia in the bronchial tubes, which transport the secretions upwards and make it easier to cough them up. The active ingredient also activates the body’s own defenses.

When is Umckaloabo used?

Umckaloabo is used to treat inflammation of the bronchial tubes (bronchitis). However, it is also used for inflammation of the paranasal sinuses and non-purulent tonsillitis.

What side effects does Umckaloabo have?

Occasional side effects of Umckaloabo are gastrointestinal complaints (stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea) or an increase in liver values, which in isolated cases have led to liver function damage.

Rare adverse effects of umckaloabo use are slight bleeding of the gums or nose and hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, hives, itching of the skin and mucous membranes.

Very rarely, severe allergic reactions have been reported, accompanied by swelling of the face and airways, shortness of breath and a drop in blood pressure.

If serious side effects or side effects not listed here occur, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted immediately.

The dosage of Umckaloabo drops depends on the age of the person and should not exceed 90 drops per day for adults (30 drops for infants and 60 drops for children aged six to twelve). The drops are taken in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening with a little liquid. In tablet form, the preparation is also swallowed three times a day with a sufficient amount of liquid.

The duration of treatment should not exceed three weeks. After the symptoms have subsided, the medication should be continued for another three to four days to prevent a relapse.

Overdose

To date, no side effects have been reported from taking too high a dose of umckaloabo. However, should side effects occur, a doctor should be informed who can initiate measures depending on the severity of the symptoms.
