The alternatives to Emla Patch

The active ingredients in the Emla Patch can also be administered in other ways. The combination of lidocaine and prilocaine is also available as an ointment under the name Anesderm®. Gels with lidocaine are also available.

Xylocaine spray is particularly suitable for the area of mucous membranes, such as in the mouth. The lotion Anaesthesulf® is suitable for large-scale application. The dosage, especially for children, should be read carefully in the package insert and if you have any questions, please ask your family doctor or pharmacist.

Is the Emla Patch available without a prescription?

Emla patches are available in pharmacies, but are not prescription-only. The patches can therefore be bought without a prescription in any pharmacy. For children, a cash prescription can sometimes be issued, so that the costs do not have to be borne by the patient.
