The different sprays

The Locabiosol® spray lost its approval in May 2016 and has not been available in pharmacies since then. The reason for this is that there have been numerous reports of severe allergic reactions with shortness of breath and swelling of the face to the active ingredient fusafungin contained in it. At present, there is no comparable alternative on the German drug market with an antibiotic effect similar to that of the active ingredient Fusafungin.

The Tantum Verde® spray is effective against pain and irritation in the mouth and throat area. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anaesthetic effects. It contains the active ingredient benzydamine hydrochloride, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate and 10% alcohol by volume.

Benzydamine hydrochloride has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and analgesic effects. Four to eight sprays of the spray may be given into the throat up to six times a day. Children between 6 and 12 years of age should not take more than four sprays every six hours.

For children under 6 years of age over 4 kilograms body weight, one spray burst per kilogram with a maximum of 4 spray bursts in total is considered a therapeutic dose for sore throats. The Sulagil throat spray from Wick® works against sore throats within seconds.Among other things, it contains the local anesthetic lidocaine, which blocks the transmission of pain from the pharyngeal mucosa to the brain. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect and calms the pharyngeal mucosa.

Wick throat spray contains 20 volume % alcohol. One may take 2 to 3 sprays up to 6 times a day. Children from 6 to 12 years may use the spray up to 4 times a day with 2 to 3 sprays.

It is not suitable for children under 6 years of age, pregnant and nursing women. The Dobendan® Direct Flurbiprofen sore throat spray does not contain alcohol, antibiotics or local anesthetics. It is said to have a lasting pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory and decongestant effect for up to 6 hours.

The Dobendan spray is generally considered to be well tolerated. It may be used every 3 to 6 hours with 3 sprays with no more than 5 doses per day. If the symptoms persist for more than three days, a doctor should be consulted.

It is not suitable for children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women. Flurbiprofen may affect fertility.
