Thyroiditis (Thyroid Gland Inflammation): Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of thyroiditis (thyroiditis).

Family history

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you suffer from pain in the area of the thyroid gland?
  • Do you have a fever? If so, what is the temperature and how long has it been?
  • Do you feel fatigued and sick?
  • Have you noticed any flu-like symptoms?
  • Did the symptomatology occur acutely?
  • Have you noticed an increase in weight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Has your appetite changed?
  • Do you feel cold frequently?
  • Do you often feel tired and unfocused?
  • Have you noticed any changes in the skin? Hair loss, dry skin, etc.?
  • Have you noticed water retention on the legs?
  • Do you have frequent constipation?
  • Do you suffer from muscle cramps?
  • Do you suffer from shortness of breath?*
  • Do you have a hoarse voice?
  • Have you noticed muscle cramps or muscle stiffness?
  • Did you notice any sensations of discomfort?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Has your pulse slowed down?
  • Have you noticed any changes in your menstrual cycle (e.g., prolonged menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia); interval between periods greater than 31 days or no menstrual bleeding its more than three months (amenorrhea))?
  • Have you noticed any changes in libido (sex drive)?

Self history including medication history.

Medication history

  • Amiodarone
  • Immune checkpoint inhibitors such as programmed-cell-death-protein-1(PD-1) or cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) antibodies
  • Lithium
  • Cytokines (interferon alpha, interleukin-2)
