Tiapride

Tiapride is commercially available in tablet form (Tiapridal). It has been approved in many countries since 1981.

Structure and properties

Tiapride (C₁₅H₂₄N₂O₄S, M_r = 328.4 g/mol) is present in drugs as tiapride hydrochloride, a white crystalline powder that is very soluble in water. It is an orthomethoxy-substituted benzamide.

Effects

Tiapride (ATC N05AL03) has antidopaminergic and antianxiety properties. The effects are due to antagonism at dopamine D2 receptors.

Indications

For the treatment of movement disorders and tics.
