What happens when zinc is overdosed

An intake of more than 20 mg of zinc per day in tablet form is not necessary with a balanced diet and consumption of zinc-containing food and can even be harmful. Long-term overdoses can lead to a disturbance of the iron and copper balance, as the intake of zinc interferes with the absorption and availability of iron and copper. Zinc can also reduce the intake of certain drugs such as antibiotics. In the long term overdosage of zinc can impair the immune function and lead to a disturbance of the fat metabolism.Acute intoxication, i.e. poisoning with zinc, only occurs at very high doses of zinc (200-400mg) and manifests itself by nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhoea and pain.
