Use during pregnancy
Nicorette® can only be used during pregnancy and lactation if the doctor is consulted. In general, however, we do not recommend this as nicotine enters the child’s bloodstream where it can disturb circulation and breathing regulation. For this reason a pregnant smoker is always advised to stop smoking and not to use substitute nicotine products.
Nevertheless, it is believed that continuing to smoke is more harmful to the unborn child than using nicotine substitutes during a medically supervised withdrawal program. Nicotine also passes into breast milk, so that both smoking and nicotine substitutes should also be avoided during breastfeeding.
