Distribution of Vita-Merfen ointment (Novartis) was discontinued in many countries in 2014. Vita-Hexin from the company Streuli, for example, was used as a replacement. The company Verfora took over the brand in 2017 and brought Vita-Merfen back to the market in 2020. This with the same active ingredients, but with an adapted ointment base.

Ingredients

The active ingredients are chlorhexidine gluconate, benzoxonium chloride, and retinol palmitate. For the new ointment approved in 2020, the original base was changed to include wool fat and wool wax alcohols. The new ointment has a different base based on white petrolatum.

Effects

Chlorhexidine gluconate and benzoxonium chloride have antiseptic properties, and retinol palmitate (vitamin A) has a wound-healing effect.

Fields of application

For the treatment of small wounds of all kinds (scratches, abrasions, cuts), for chapped skin, cracks and minor 1st degree burns.

Dosage

According to the professional information. The ointment is applied thinly two to three times a day.
