What can be done to better overcome the morning low?
For severe depression, the medication is adjusted so that the dampening effects are more likely to take effect in the evening and the stimulating effects in the morning. This should make it easier for the patient to sleep and get up, which is of course not a permanent solution. Supporting measures for bridging the morning depression should therefore be taken while taking the medication.
A routine in which the patient has to think as little as possible in the morning is particularly helpful. The alarm clock should therefore ring at the same time every day, even on weekends. The morning cup of coffee is also fine for a leisurely wake-up, but excessive caffeine consumption should be avoided.
The best therapy is daylight, so fresh air is highly recommended in this situation. If you have someone with whom you can make an appointment, getting up is usually easier. If nothing helps, the quality of sleep should be improved. Because those who do not sleep well are understandably tired and drowsy in the morning. Then the sleep disorder should be treated to combat the morning depression.
How can you overcome fatigue in depression?
Psyche and body are connected and influence each other. Physical activity can therefore also awaken the mind, which is why exercise and fresh air is the best remedy for fatigue. If the drive is missing, you can make appointments or visit groups to have a social motivating factor.
In cases of very severe depression, medication is usually required to give the initial impetus. However, as with overcoming the morning depression, a restful sleep is the necessary prerequisite for daytime tiredness. If necessary, therefore, therapy of any sleep disturbance is necessary.
How can one overcome the lack of drive?
Going out into the daylight and contact with other people are the best measures to increase drive, both physically and mentally. Initially you may have to force yourself and make appointments, but after a while your natural motivation will return. If this is not the case, e.g. in a very severe depression, drive-enhancing medication and psychotherapy are necessary. This relieves the patient of responsibility until he or she has enough drive of his or her own to get on with everyday life again.
How can you overcome sadness?
Lack of drive, fatigue, sadness and the other symptoms of depression are related. So if you have treated any sleep disorders and increased your drive, you can turn back to the activities you enjoy and thus fight sadness. If a certain depression persists, a reason should be found and eliminated if possible.
For example, if the job is responsible, a change of profession can be considered. If a loved one has passed away, there are various offers for coping with grief. Help and advice can be obtained from your therapist or from specialised contact points, e.g. self-help groups.
