What do you think about encasing?
Encasing is a special protective cover for mattresses, pillows and comforters. This protective cover is intended to prevent mite faeces from escaping through the mattress or bed linen and causing the allergy. It also makes it more difficult for skin scales – the main food for house dust mites – to get into the mattress.
The covers for pillows and bed linen, however, make them somewhat heavier and thus more unwieldy. These protective covers must be changed and washed regularly, otherwise mites will once again romp about on them. This should be done every six to eight weeks.
Over time, however, the encasings become leaky due to washing and should then be replaced with new ones. Encasings are also sold in stores as bedding for allergy sufferers. When buying them, make sure that the encasings are not only impermeable to mites, but also impermeable to mite excrement.
