What to do?
If one is not yet affected by complaints, but tends to be so, effective preventive measures are the most important treatment. Building up strength in the abdomen and back by training the back and working in a way that is easy on the back are the most important measures here. Overweight persons affected should reduce their weight to reduce the strain on the spine.
This must bear the entire body weight with only a few centimeters of surface. The lower the weight, the lower the load on the individual vertebral body. Not only for weight reduction but also to strengthen the back muscles, exercise should be the order of the day as often as possible. Even half an hour of daily walking can significantly relieve the symptoms.
Exercises at home can be just as effective in building up muscles. However, training should always be carried out according to precise instructions, as incorrect execution of the exercises can lead to further deterioration of the complaints. The worst way to combat pain in the spinal column is not to move at all.
As with many other diseases of the skeletal system, cold or heat applications are also suitable. For example, the temperature can reach the back through mud packs, fango packs red light, compresses or simply a hot water bottle. A warm, cosy bath or a sauna can also relax the muscles to such an extent that the complaints quickly subside.
If pain occurs for a longer period of time, it tends to become chronic pain as the body develops a pain memory. In the future, this area in our brain will react much more intensively to non-painful stimuli and lead to permanent pain without stimulus. If the pain does not get better despite simple measures as described above, a doctor will sooner or later take medication to combat the pain.
In this case he will always prescribe a painkiller. In appropriate cases, he will also inject directly into the spinal area affected by the pain. Acupuncture in particular has also proven to be very effective in the field of traditional Chinese healing methods for the treatment of long-lasting back pain.
For the body position there is the helpful tip to use the so-called step position. In this position, the legs and pelvis are each angled and supported at a 90° angle. The aim is always to reintegrate the affected person into everyday life as quickly as possible.
