Structure and properties
Lanolin alcohols are a mixture of sterols (sterols) and higher aliphatic alcohols derived from lanolin. The pharmacopoeia prescribes a minimum content of 30.0% cholesterol. The wool wax alcohols are present as a pale yellow to brownish yellow, brittle mass that becomes kneadable when heated. They are practically insoluble in water.
Effects
Wool wax charcoal have skin conditioning and emulsifying (W/O) properties.
Fields of application
The wool wax alcohols are mainly used for the preparation of semi-solid medicines such as creams and ointments. Wool wax alcohols were traditionally used to make wool wax charcoal ointment.
