5 Things that Make a Baby Happy

A happy, content and balanced baby: that’s what every parent wants. Of course, every child brings its own personality and individual traits with it at birth. But as different as the little ones are, it is also easy to give you a good start in life. The five most important tips for new parents:

1. closeness gives the baby a sense of security.

Nine months, the baby can feel mom’s warmth, hear her heartbeat and experience a whole lot of security. No wonder the little ones feel most comfortable when you return this feeling of security. When you carry them in a sling, when you give them a loving baby massage or when you cuddle them every day: babies love to be stroked and to have physical contact. By the way: Ideally, your child should also be very close to you at night. This doesn’t have to be in the parents’ bed – even if the crib is in the bedroom, the baby feels the closeness of the parents. (By the way, the short distance is also an advantage when breastfeeding at night!).

2. breastfeeding is good for mom and baby

Breast milk is truly multi-talented. It is the healthiest food for babies in the first six months, protects against allergies and has a positive effect on child development well into infancy. With breastfeeding, the unique bond between mom and baby continues naturally after birth. Mom also benefits from breastfeeding, as it promotes involution and breastfeeding women are usually allowed to regain their old weight more quickly.

3. too much hustle and bustle stresses

Do not overwhelm your little one. Dare calmly to limit the rush of visitors after the birth and first get used to the new family situation in a small way. Even later, less is more. A constantly running TV, a different baby class every day, constant outings: that overstimulates the baby. If, on the other hand, you let a newborn arrive in the world in peace and let it get used to its new life very slowly, the parents will ultimately benefit from this as well.

4. rituals give security

A goodnight song before bedtime, cuddling together after diapering, the daily afternoon walk: children love the same, recurring routines. Parents may find this boring, but the little ones love it, because it structures their small, new world and gives them security and familiarity. It’s also nice when dad and baby have a common ritual, such as bathing or putting them to bed.

5. do something good for yourself

Only happy parents have happy babies. So treat yourself now and then consciously small timeouts and everyday escapes. This can be a relaxing full bath, a little shopping spree, an evening out for two. Tip for nursing moms: How about a night without getting up? If you pump a milk ration and your partner takes over the nightly feeding on the weekend, you can sleep in and recharge your batteries. A blessing that will give you undreamt-of strength!
