Magnesium | Stomach cramps during pregnancy

Magnesium

A pronounced lack of magnesium can lead to stomach cramps during pregnancy. The reason for this is an uncontrolled contraction of the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract. The occurrence of excessive pain in the lumbar spine during pregnancy may also be associated with a magnesium deficiency. For this reason, it is advisable to think about a sufficient supply of magnesium in case of stomach cramps during pregnancy. However, just like the intake of all medications, the intake of magnesium should also be discussed with the gynecologist.

Contractions

Especially for women in their first pregnancy it is difficult to identify the first light contractions as such. The reason for this is the fact that the first contractions feel quite strange in many cases. Some expectant mothers speak of a slight pulling in the lumbar spine area, while other women confuse the first contractions with simple stomach cramps.

The problem is further increased by the fact that the first contractions (so-called exercise contractions) can occur as early as the 30th week of pregnancy. This form of labor is often confused with mild stomach cramps. With the so-called exercise contractions, the uterus prepares itself for the later birth.

They can be distinguished from normal stomach cramps by the fact that the abdominal wall becomes hard during the contractions. From about the 35th week of pregnancy, the first down pains can begin. With the help of this form of contractions, the unborn child is pushed deeper into the pelvis.

Plunging contractions occur at irregular intervals and can be misinterpreted as stomach cramps or severe pain in the lumbar spine. As soon as the first real contractions begin, however, these can be clearly distinguished from stomach cramps. If real contractions are present, the expectant mother feels pulling pains, which occur in the entire abdomen. In some women, the pain radiates into the abdomen, back and thighs. If this form of contraction occurs at regular intervals and a contraction lasts between 30 and 60 seconds, the birth of the child is imminent.
