Fructose Intolerance: Medical History

The anamnesis (medical history) represents an important component in the diagnosis of fructose intolerance (fructose intolerance).

Family history

  • Are there any diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in your family that are common?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social anamnesis

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed symptoms such as increased flatulence and diarrhea?
  • Are you experiencing nausea and/or vomiting?
  • Do you suffer from cramping abdominal pain?
  • Do you have occasional alternation of diarrhea and constipation?
  • When do these symptoms occur?
  • Do you feel chronically tired?
  • Do you suffer from headaches and aching limbs?
  • Do you often feel shaky and/or sweaty?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Have you lost body weight unintentionally?

Self history including medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (gastrointestinal diseases).
  • Operations
  • Allergies
  • Pregnancies
  • Medication history

Note!When looking for the trigger of food intolerance, keeping a food diary is helpful. Causative foods include: meals rich in fruits and vegetables, fruit juice drinks, dried fruit, sugar-free chewing gum, energy-reduced products (preferred in diabetic products; used here as a substitute for sucrose), candies
