Diagnosis

A swelling on the forehead can be diagnosed by various doctors, for example the family doctor, dermatologist or pediatrician. The most important thing for finding the cause of the swelling is the patient interview (anamnesis). This provides important information that can explain the origin of the swelling.

This information includes known or possible allergies, injuries, previous illnesses (e.g. bleeding tendency) and the medication taken. After the patient interview, the doctor will take a look at the swelling and, if necessary, the remaining skin. The appearance can, for example, indicate a bleeding, an allergic cause or sunburn. Finally, special examinations such as an allergy diagnosis or a blood test depend on the suspected diagnosis and are arranged individually

Duration of the swelling

Since swellings on the forehead can have completely different causes and are therefore not all the same, the duration of their occurrence is also completely different. In general, swellings in the context of an allergy subside after about 5 to 6 days. It is similar with sunburn.Bruises, so-called hematomas, can however be present for up to 2 weeks until they are completely removed. If there is a tendency to bleed or a disorder of the haematopoietic system, they can last even longer in some cases. Without treatment, infectious swellings can even develop over several months
