The manufacturers want to remedy this problem and have created the dental care set for this reason, which is to bring professional dental cleaning home for users. The teeth should be optimally cleaned, cared for and even whitened to ensure optimal oral hygiene. But can this dental care set replace professional dental cleaning by trained personnel?
What does a dental care set contain?
The basic equipment of a dental care set consists of an ultrasonic toothbrush, an oral irrigator and various attachments for cleaning the interdental spaces or the tongue. The ultrasonic toothbrush has different program levels, which are adapted for different purposes. There are cleaning programs, polishing programs and massage programs, which also care for the gums.
For this ultrasonic toothbrush there are different heads that clean special places. There is an attachment with which the tongue can be cleaned, or a head especially for the interdental spaces. There is also a dental floss attachment for the interdental spaces, which can also be cleaned with the mouth shower.
The difference is that each attachment is used with an ultrasonic brush and therefore always cleans with vibration, which makes the application easier and minimizes the risk of injury. The dental care set advertises with the “all around” function. Thanks to the many special attachments, any place in the oral cavity, no matter how difficult to reach, can be cleaned optimally, just like a dentist.
In addition, there is always a dental mirror that is illuminated and with which the user can view his own cleaning and generally his teeth. The dental care set is a mobile dental station, which can be taken along by its storage set also on journeys. The mouth shower is an essential part of the dental care set.
A mouth shower is a water jet device, which can remove food residues from the interdental spaces due to high water pressure. Since the interdental spaces make up 30% of the tooth surfaces, cleaning is very important in order to prevent the development of caries there. Nevertheless, the oral irrigator is not the first choice for cleaning the interdental spaces.
Patients with larger gaps should use interdental brushes, while flossing is the product of choice for all other patients. These two products are perfectly sufficient for cleaning the interdental spaces. The oral irrigator can be used as an additive, but it cannot replace floss, as it has been proven to clean more thoroughly.
Furthermore, patients with gum inflammation should not use an oral douche because the high water pressure can damage the already irritated gums. If used incorrectly, bacteria can also be pressed into the gum pocket, which in the worst case can lead to empyema. The bacteria have the possibility to get into the bloodstream and cause infections. Therefore, it should be discussed with the dentist in advance whether an oral irrigator is individually suitable and may be used.
