Ingredients

Alkaloids in yellow latex which are considered to be toxic to cells. Saponins, flavonoids, little essential oil.

Effect and application

Celandine has a weakly calming, antispasmodic and biliary effect. Used for stomach, intestinal and gallbladder complaints. A tea can be made from the herb and the root, but the effect is weak and so celandine is more often found as a component of tea mixtures. Warts can be dabbed with the yellow, fresh latex. Used several times a day, they disappear very quickly in some people while in others no effect can be observed.

Application in homeopathy

Chelidonium is considered a very good bile and liver remedy. For pain in the liver area and jaundice. Chelidonium is also used for influenza, pneumonia and for muscle rheumatism and nerve inflammation. It should be noted that patients who need Chelidonium have increased discomfort on the right side of the body. Commonly used potencies are D2 to D6.

Preparation

Celandine tea: Take 2 teaspoons of celandine and pour a large cup of boiling water over it. Leave to infuse for ten minutes, strain.

Combination with other medicinal plants

In case of digestive tract disorders, the following tea mixture can be used:10.0 g celandine10.0 g peppermint5.0 g caraway5.0 g wormwood. Pour a large cup of boiling water over 2 teaspoons of this mixture, leave to brew for 10 minutes and strain. Drink up to 2 cups unsweetened daily.

Side effects

Do not overdose because of the alkaloids it contains.

Plant description

Perennial plant, grows from a strong root up to one meter high. Branched stem, slightly hairy. Leaves bluish-green, round-toothed.

The flowers with 4 petals, bright golden yellow, form umbel-like inflorescences. The flower develops into a long fruit with seeds which are often widely distributed by ants. The whole plant contains a yellow milk.

This tastes hot and is caustic. Flowering time: The celandine flowers from April to October, mainly in May and June. Occurrence: Widespread on walls, roadsides near settlements.
