Chest pain in the menopause

In addition to the typical menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, exhaustion/lack of performance, sleep disturbances and vaginal dryness, breast complaints often occur during the menopause. Typically, the affected women complain of breast tenderness, increased sensitivity to touch and stabbing or pulling breast pain. Nipple pain can also occur in menopausal women.

All these complaints, which are typical of the menopause, are caused by a hormonal imbalance. In addition, the structure of the breast gland tissue also changes. The actual glandular tissue decreases.

This decline can in turn promote the formation of fluid-filled cavities (cysts). These cysts can also be the cause of chest pain or nipple pain. Stopping the contraceptive pill also causes a hormonal change in the female body. As a result, in addition to a variety of other symptoms, sensitive and/or painful nipples can also occur.
