Circular hair loss at the beard

Circular hair loss in men can also occur in the beard area. This form is not as common as the head hair form, but it is not rare. Most affected persons have only one bald spot in the area of the beard growth, few affected persons complain about several bald spots in the beard. The therapy is identical with the therapy of circular hair loss in the area of the head hair. Also in terms of prognosis, this form does not differ from the others.

Circular hair loss at the back of the head

Circular hair loss occurs most frequently at the back of the head. Most of those affected complain of one or two bald spots on the back of the head, in some cases there are several, or even diffuse or complete hair loss. Especially the transition between the back of the head and the top of the head is a very common location for circular hair loss.

Fungal diseases can also lead to single or confluent, i.e. contiguous, bald spots. Furthermore, wearing heavy hair ornaments or stuck hair clips in this area can lead to traumatic hair loss. A special form of non-scarring, circular hair loss is the so-called ophiasis.

This is a large-area hair loss at the back of the head with the hairs remaining on the parting. The remaining hair is typically also called scalplock. This form of alopecia is usually associated with a worse prognosis and tends to heal poorly.
