Structure and properties
Cold sore patches are small hydrocolloid patches that are applied locally to the lesions of cold sores. The patches are transparent, breathable, and can be covered with lipstick or makeup. They usually do not contain pharmaceutical agents, but there are exceptions.
Effects
A cold sore patch allows moist wound care of cold sores and optimal conditions for wound healing. The cold sore is isolated, does not crust and the skin heals without the cold sore drying out. The patch protects the wound from pathogens and contaminants and has a pain-relieving effect by covering the nerve endings. Finally, it can contribute to a reduction in the transmission of the herpes viruses.

Application
According to the package leaflet. The cold sore patch should be applied to dry and clean skin. No cream or ointment should be applied just before. It is worn all day long (24 hours). It is removed only when it begins to peel off by itself.
