Complication after inguinal hernia surgery

An inguinal hernia is a bulging of the abdominal wall. The abdominal wall has gaps in some places through which contents from the abdominal cavity, for example parts of the intestine, can pass. This incarceration may have to be treated surgically to maintain an intact blood supply.

A complication of this operation is the injury to the blood vessels that supply the testicle. If the testicle is subsequently not supplied with sufficient blood, this can result in testicular atrophy.
