Cross tapes are available from a variety of suppliers including pharmacies and drugstores. They are also referred to as grid or lattice tapes.
Structure and properties
Cross tapes are small, grid-shaped and self-adhesive tapes that are available in various sizes and colors (e.g., skin-colored, blue, pink). They are made of a resistant, water-repellent and breathable material – polyester / polyurethane – and stay on the skin for several days. They can also be worn while showering or swimming. The patches do not contain pharmaceutical agents and painkillers.
Effects
The Cross Tapes are said to have pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, among others. According to the manufacturers, the effects are based on influencing the flow of energy and on the principle of acupuncture or acupressure. Some manufacturers also speak of a micro-relief of the skin. We have no information on the actual clinical effectiveness. It is a method from alternative medicine.
Fields of application
Cross tapes are mainly used for the treatment of pain. In addition, there are numerous other areas of application (e.g. inflammatory diseases, motion sickness).
Application
According to the package insert. Cross tapes are applied to pain points, acupuncture and trigger points. They can be applied with anti-static tweezers.
Contraindications
Cross Tapes should not be applied on wounds, on pre-damaged or diseased skin and in case of hypersensitivity.
Adverse effects
Possible adverse effects include hypersensitivity reactions and skin reactions.
