Do Bepanthen® products also help against pimples?

Pimple control is not a common application of Bepanthen® products. Since dexpanthenol stimulates sebum production, the use of Bepanthen on a still closed pimple could even be counterproductive. However, in the case of an inflamed, open pimple, the application of Bepanthen® antiseptic wound cream could be helpful, as this would not only combat a bacterial infection of the pimple but also promote wound healing. This application falls more into the range of indications of Bepanthen® because a scratched or squeezed pimple can be considered as superficial skin damage.

Can Bepanthen® also be used in the genital area?

Most of the products of the Bepanthen® range are not suitable for use in the genital area, especially the aseptic wound cream, as this would disturb the vaginal environment in particular, and the cooling foam spray, which must not be used on mucous membranes. Bepanthen® Wound and Healing Ointment can be used in the intimate area, but it should be noted that the ingredient white vaseline increases the tendency to tear in latex condoms and thus makes contraception with condoms less safe. For the other Bepanthen® products no information is given about the use in the genital area, therefore a doctor should be consulted before use or Bepanthen wound and healing ointment should be avoided.

Can Bepanthen® be used to treat herpes?

Bepanthen® Wound and Healing Ointment is intended to promote wound healing and is therefore not suitable for fighting a viral infection such as herpes. If used carelessly, the cream could even lead to herpes infections of these areas by carrying the viruses to other skin areas. The antiseptic wound cream is also not suitable for fighting herpes because the antiseptic agent chlorhexidine only fights fungi and bacteria, but not viruses like the herpes simplex virus, which is responsible for the herpes cold sores. It is therefore not advisable to use Bepanthen® on herpes blisters. Instead, commercially available virustatics such as Aciclovir ointment or Penciclovir ointment, which are also available without prescription, should be used.

Can Bepanthen® be used after laser therapy?

Laser treatments are sometimes a massive intervention in the layers under the skin surface and the affected areas can become infected. Depending on the treatment, the application of Bepanthen® can be helpful; however, it should not be done without consulting a doctor, preferably the treating cosmetic doctor. Usually the doctor prescribes products for aftercare after a laser treatment or recommends the right care products. In such a case Bepanthen® should not be used in addition to other products, as it could possibly cause adverse interactions.

Does Bepanthen® help against wrinkles?

There is no special Bepanthen® product against wrinkles. However, it is possible that wrinkles can be reduced by the supply of the Bepanthen® active ingredient vitamin B5, which promotes skin regeneration. Such people who tend to have oily facial skin are rather discouraged from this application, as the fat production of the skin is still promoted by Bepanthen®. The application of Bepanthen® on wrinkles usually does not cause any damage, therefore there is no reason why one should not try Bepanthen® according to the above mentioned application principles and limitations and observe how the skin reacts to it.
