Solubilizing Mixture is not commercially available as a finished drug product and must be freshly prepared at a pharmacy or drugstore if needed.

Structure and properties

The mixture is a clear, dark brown liquid with a faint odor of alcoholic liquorice extract.

Production

Ammonium chloride 2.5 g
Adjusted ethanolic licorice root fluid extract. 7.5 g
Purified water 90 g

The ammonium chloride is dissolved in purified water. To this solution is added the adjusted ethanolic Suessholzwurzelfluidextract. The dissolving mixture must always be prepared fresh.

Effects

Mucolytic properties are attributed to the preparation.

Dosage

According to the package leaflet. The usual single dose is 1 tablespoon.

Indications for use

For the treatment of cough and respiratory diseases with mucus production.

Adverse effects

We do not have complete information on possible side effects and precautions. Ammonium chloride at high doses may cause acidosis, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. It is now rarely used as an expectorant.
