Dobutamine

Dobutamine is commercially available as an infusion solution (Dobutrex). It has been approved in many countries since 1988.

Structure and properties

Dobutamine (C₁₈H₂₃NO₃, M_r = 301.4 g/mol) is present in drugs as racemate and dobutamine hydrochloride, a white crystalline powder that is sparingly soluble in water.

• Stimulation of β1-adrenergic receptors.
• Positively inotropic
• Increases cardiac contractility and improves cardiac output by increasing stroke volume.
• Positive chronotropic at higher doses.
• Positively dromotropic

Indications

To correct inadequate blood flow due to insufficient cardiac output to maintain normal circulation.
