Dry lips for babies
Many babies tend to have dry lips, which can be aggravated by frequent drooling or licking the tongue over the lips. This can have several causes. Mostly it is because the dry heating air or the cold air outside is still a challenge for the delicate baby skin.
Since the lips dry out very quickly, it is important to always take adequate care of them. On the one hand, it is important that the baby drinks enough, because dry lips can also indicate a lack of fluid in babies. In most cases, dry lips in babies have a completely harmless cause and disappear on their own within a few days.
In rare cases, however, dry lips in babies can also indicate a more serious disease. In this case it is important to pay attention to other symptoms such as fever, frequent coughing or other symptoms. In this case it is essential to consult a pediatrician.
In most cases, dry lips have a harmless cause, but they can also cause pain to the baby if the lips become so dry that they burst open and start bleeding. What is important here is the right therapy. Never apply synthetic creams to a baby’s dry lips, as they can only worsen the symptoms.
In addition, babies often run their tongue over their lips and thus run the risk of swallowing some of the creams. Lanolin from the pharmacy, which is actually used for sore nipples in women, is particularly suitable. Since the children can swallow this cream without any problems, there is no danger of incompatibility reactions.
For babies who only have dry lips from time to time, you can also try to moisten the lips with a few drops of breast milk and let them absorb it. This often helps against the dry lips of babies. However, if the dry lips persist, a pediatrician should be consulted to examine the baby and recommend a special therapy.
