Dry Lips Lipstick

Introduction

Dry lips are a common problem, especially in the cold winter months. They are characterized by a brittle, roughened surface, which can dry out further and eventually crack if not cared for properly. This is usually perceived as extremely painful. Since cracks on the lips can become inflamed, it is important to prevent the development of dry lips at an early stage with suitable lip care sticks.

Cause

The causes of dry lips are numerous. A common reason for dry lips is a cold and dry outside air, as it occurs mainly in the winter months. Insufficient fluid intake, a vitamin deficiency or certain medications can also lead to dry lips.

The frequent use of lipsticks, which are actually intended to care for dry lips and protect the lips from external influences, can also cause the lips to dry out. If lip care sticks are used too often, the lips will become accustomed to the product, which in the end will dry out even faster. The use of colored lipsticks can also cause dry lips.

This includes in particular the use of colored lipsticks, which contain preservatives, fragrances or mineral oils. Matt lipsticks in particular are the wrong choice, as they also contain less moisture and therefore, unlike lip gloss, which provides moisture, the lips continue to dry out. Dry lips can cause an unpleasant feeling or even severe pain due to their roughened to cracked surface.

If the lips continue to dry out for days or weeks, deep cracks can appear on the lips, which can spontaneously bleed heavily. Dry lips are a very persistent symptom. Continued mechanical stress on dry, chapped lips or a lack of lip care can slow down the healing process and the lips will always crack. In order to prevent this constant reopening of dry lips, it is important to apply suitable lip care sticks early on.

Diagnosis

Dry lips are a gaze diagnosis, which does not necessarily have to be made by a doctor. If dry lips are very painful or if the person concerned suffers from a high degree of discomfort for optical reasons, it is nevertheless advisable to consult a doctor (family doctor or dermatologist). This doctor can identify possible causes for the development of dry lips and thus advise the affected person individually on the care of the lips.
