Duchenne Type Muscular Dystrophy: Consequential Diseases

The following are the most important diseases or complications that may be contributed to by Duchenne muscular dystrophy type:

Respiratory system (J00-J99)

  • Aspiration pneumonia – pneumonia caused by inhalation of foreign substances (often stomach contents).
  • Pneumonia (pneumonia)
  • Respiratory insufficiency (respiratory failure; disturbance of external (mechanical) respiration).

Endocrine, nutritional, and metabolic diseases (E00-E90).

  • Obesity (obesity).
  • Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland)

Cardiovascular system (I00-I99)

  • Heart failure (cardiac insufficiency)
  • Hypotension (low blood pressure)
  • Cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease)
  • Lymphedema – proliferation of tissue fluid caused by damage to the lymphatic system.

Esophagus (food pipe), stomach and intestines (K00-K67; K90-K93).

Musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (M00-M99).

  • Scoliosis – lateral curvature of the body axis (forms in 50-95% of cases).

Neoplasms – tumor diseases (C00-D48).

  • Rhabdomyosarcoma – malignant (malignant) soft tissue tumor that develops from cells of striated muscle.

Psyche – nervous system (F00-F99; G00-G99).

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
  • Depression (27.4%)
  • Mental retardation (38.4%)
  • Insomnia (sleep disorders)
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder

Genitourinary system (kidneys, urinary tract – sex organs) (N00-N99)

  • Nephroliths (kidney stones)

Symptoms and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings not elsewhere classified (R00-R99).
