Duration and prognosis of pulp necrosis

The duration of pulp necrosis is variable. Progressive caries can very quickly reach infected pulp necrosis, while trauma in childhood can trigger sterile necrosis years later.The prognosis is good in both cases, if a root canal treatment is performed early. Nevertheless, sterile necrosis is easier to treat due to the absence of bacteria, so the prognosis is better.
