Summary | Exercises for an injury to the inner and outer ligaments

Summary

Inner and outer ligament injuries to the knee are very common. There is pain on the affected side of the knee, swelling, reddening and warming as well as painful restriction of movement. Later on, instability in the knee joint can occur, especially in the case of torn ligaments, because the proprioception as well as the securing of the joint by the ligament is reduced.

In addition to strengthening exercises for the surrounding musculature in open and closed chains, the focus is on coordination exercises. Exercises on shaky ground, changing resistance on the leg or the use of distraction can make the exercises more difficult. Massage grips can be used as a supplement and support the healing of the ligaments with poor blood circulation.

The application of tape bandages can also be useful for ligament injuries to the knee joint. Stabilizing classic tape immobilizes the joint, while kinesiotape has a supporting effect on the receptors and tissue. After an acute injury to the inner or outer ligament, a short rest period is usually prescribed, depending on the type and severity of the injury.
