Duration of a bruise in the uterus
Bruises in the uterus usually occur in early pregnancy, i.e. in the first third of the pregnancy. Under certain circumstances, such bruising can impair the pregnancy. Similar to an internal bruise, the duration of a bruise in the uterus, which in principle is also an internal bruise, also depends on the size of the bruise.
Small bruises usually disappear within two weeks, while larger bruises can last for weeks. Fortunately, in most cases the bruise is resorbed and bled by the body without complications, so that the pregnant patient experiences spotting bleeding as the bruise heals. In some cases the bruise even persists until the end of the pregnancy.
Duration of an internal haematoma
An internal haematoma can exert pressure on adjacent tissue, blood vessels and organs. The larger the internal bruise is, the longer it takes for the bruise to be absorbed by the body. In some cases, the body’s degradation process is too slow or the location of the bruise is unfavourable, causing damage to surrounding tissue.
In these cases, the bruise is punctured (if the contents are still liquid) or surgically removed – thus complications can be avoided. An internal bruise lasts about twice as long as a bruise directly under the skin.
