Sweat gland inflammation on the feet

Sweat glands are located almost everywhere on the body and thus also on the feet. However, the most common sweat gland inflammations affect the sebaceous glands, which are much more common on hairy skin than on the hands or feet. In the case of small, itchy blisters or inflammation of the feet, one should therefore also look for other causes, such as dyshidrosis or hand-mouth-foot disease. Especially in the case of the feet, fungal diseases are also common and can also lead to inflammation of the skin.

Associated symptoms

Besides the actual inflammation of the individual sweat glands, the disease is accompanied by other symptoms. One of the main symptoms is pain. The congested and inflamed sweat glands cause severe pain, which is provoked by tight clothing or movement.

Furthermore, local lymph node swelling can occur. Especially in the groin and in the armpits many lymph nodes are localized. These lymph nodes react to the inflammation and are a sign that the immune system is actively fighting the inflammation.

The swollen lymph nodes can also be painful. The inflamed areas also secrete a foul-smelling, purulent secretion. If the course of the disease is already chronic, scars are visible next to the acute inflammation, indicating that the inflammation has already healed.

In extreme cases, the infiltration of the bacteria into the bloodstream can cause blood poisoning (sepsis). This is manifested by fever, loss of consciousness, high pulse and low blood pressure and is a life-threatening emergency situation. Due to the stigmatization, those affected often also have to cope with depression.

Inflammation is almost always accompanied by an increased sensation of pain. The affected area is more strongly supplied with blood and swollen. In addition, the predominantly affected areas of the body are in any case sensitive skin areas, such as the armpits and the intimate area. The pain can be intensified by touch, pressure and tight clothing.

Due to the localization, normal walking is often already very painful for the affected persons. Swollen lymph nodes can also be painful in case of inflammation. Swollen lymph nodes are almost always a sign that the immune system is actively fighting a pathogen.

Local lymph nodes are located in the drainage area of a certain body region. If an inflammation occurs in the respective body region, the immune system is activated and defense cells are sent to the lymph nodes. This swelling of the local lymph nodes can be painful. The lymph nodes can be felt through the skin and are often visible. However, the lymph node itself is not the site of inflammation.
